I avfallsdirektivet (WFD) fastst\u00e4lls n\u00e5gra grundl\u00e4ggande principer f\u00f6r avfallshantering: det st\u00e4ller krav p\u00e5 att avfall hanteras utan att \u00e4ventyra m\u00e4nniskors h\u00e4lsa eller skada milj\u00f6n, i synnerhet utan risker f\u00f6r vatten, luft, mark, v\u00e4xter eller djur, utan att orsaka st\u00f6rningar genom buller eller lukt, och utan att det p\u00e5verkar landsbygden eller platser av s\u00e4rskilt intresse negativt.<\/p>\n

Avfallsdirektivet (WFD) definierar en hierarki f\u00f6r avfallshantering. \u00c5tg\u00e4rder som leder till en minimering av avfall eller \u00e5teranv\u00e4ndning prioriteras h\u00f6gst, f\u00f6ljt av material\u00e5tervinning och energiutvinning. Avfallsdirektivet \u00e4r minimikravet f\u00f6r avfallshantering i EU- och EES-l\u00e4nderna, men nationella eller regionala best\u00e4mmelser \u00e4r i m\u00e5nga fall str\u00e4ngare.
