About CheSSE

Online Resources for Chemical Safety in Science Education, CheSSE, is a three-year ERASMUS+ project that started September 1st 2020. The University of Oslo (Norway), the University of Helsinki (Finland), the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), and Stockholm University (Sweden) run the project. The aim of CheSSE is to develop condensed, up-to date, online resources about chemical safety in science education. A desired long-term goal is that teachers feel competent and safe when handling chemicals and managing school laboratories.

The material will be developed through discussions and workshops, and published on this website, chesse.org. in the participating organizations’ languages and in English.

ASE Evaluated 2022 logoASE have performed an ASE Green Tick quality assurance of chesse.org to identify areas of strength and weakness of the content. The ASE Green Tick does not imply that ASE endorses this website; rather, the report provides suggestions on potential applications and how chesse.org may contribute in teaching and learning. The time of the quality assurance of chesse.org was October 2022.

Target Groups

The primary target groups of the project are science and chemistry teachers, head of schools and science teacher educators. The content can also be useful for national and regional agencies that support and control the use of chemicals in science and chemistry education. The development of the material will take place in collaboration with these different recipients. Feel free to register your interest in participating in this work: contact@chesse.org

Conferences

  • National conferences in Finland, Sweden, Slovenia and Norway in 2022
  • European Conference about Chemical Safety in Science Education
    Date: June 7th – June 8th, 2023
    Location: Helsinki, Finland
The conference focuses on the outputs from the ERASMUS+ project Online Resources for Chemical Safety in Science education, chesse.org. During the conference lectures on chemical safety will be offered by experts from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the CLEAPSS as well as the project team. There will be discussions, workshops and social interaction with colleagues from different countries. The conference will be held in English.
